“A lot of people put a lot of effort into being thin. Some because they’re vain, some because they want to be healthy, but underlying all that hard work is the idea that you have to be thin, or else. Or else what? It’s too terrible to think about! People are terrified of fat.

So when they see a fat person going around existing in public like a human being, they HAVE to treat them like shit. Because if fat people got treated like human beings, and could wear clothes and shop and date and go to gyms without anyone batting an eye, it would mean that all the hard work the fat-shamer is doing to stay thin and therefore socially acceptable was pointless.
